How difficult is Mount Snow? ›

Mount Snow makes a lot more sense for intermediate skiers. More than half of the resort's terrain is intermediate, with blue cruisers making up the overwhelming majority of runs in the Main Face and Sunbrook areas.

The Main Face has several lifts, and terrain that is great for beginners and intermediates. 73% of Mount Snow's terrain is rated for intermediate skiers and snowboarders.

Ripcord is a double-diamond trail offering some of the steepest terrain in the Northeast. True to its name, the Sunbrook face offers great scenic runs on Bluebird days.

The place where the difference between Stratton and Mount is clearest is in the “feel” of the mountain. Mount Snow has a better base lodges and caters more to day visitors, while Stratton is more focused on multi-day stays, (they offer some incredible ski-and-stay packages).

The crowds can he pretty big on weekends (like everywhere) but if you have the opportunity to come during the week, do not hesitate. You will be rewarded with serene, beautiful trails all to yourself. This is a bright, sunny mountain and the runs are long and glorious. I have no complaints about Mount Snow.

Mount Snow offers a variety of parking options from preferred paid parking closest to the slopes to free parking just a short walk or shuttle ride away.

Schoenknecht expanded Mount Snow to 44 trails over three mountains and a gondola but by the mid-1970s, he fell on hard times and it went into bankruptcy in 1975. After that, it went through a series of owners and was purchased by Vail Resorts in 2019.

Hard-packed snow is easier to navigate than ice, but skiers, and particularly snowboarders may find planting an edge to make 'grippy' turns more challenging in these conditions. However, when hard-packed snow is pretty smooth, it can be great for skiing at speed.

Well, not everyone will consider it a resort—but if you do, Southern Colorado's Silverton Mountain is assuredly the wildest lift-served mountain in North America. Silverton is an expert's only affair, with no easy (or even advanced) ways down at all.

This challenging loop leads you through Huntington Ravine which is considered to be the hardest trail leading towards the summit of Mount Washington. This trail should not be attempted in wet conditions. Hikers should have experience scrambling and climbing steep, rocky terrain before attempting this loop.
